The Philosophy of Category
The philosophy of category examines the ways in which we classify and organize the vast array of objects, concepts, and experiences that constitute our reality. Categories are fundamental to human thought and communication, influencing how we perceive, understand, and interact with the world. This branch of philosophy explores the nature, structure, and implications of categorization, delving into questions about the basis of categories, their fluidity, and their impact on our cognitive processes.
Key Concepts in the Philosophy of Category
Ontological Categories:
Concept: Ontological categories refer to the most basic and universal kinds of entities that exist. These categories include things like objects, properties, events, and relations.
Implications: Understanding these categories helps philosophers and scientists make sense of the fundamental structure of reality.
Epistemological Categories:
Concept: These are categories related to knowledge and the ways we come to understand the world. They include concepts such as facts, theories, and beliefs.
Implications: This explores how our categorization of knowledge affects our understanding and epistemic practices.
Linguistic Categories:
Concept: These categories pertain to the structure of language and include parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives), syntactic structures, and semantic roles.
Implications: Investigating linguistic categories reveals how language shapes and reflects our thinking and communication.
Cognitive Categories:
Concept: These involve the mental categories we use to make sense of our experiences. Examples include concepts like 'animal,' 'tool,' or 'emotion.'
Implications: Cognitive categories are essential for understanding how we process information and navigate the world.
Social and Cultural Categories:
Concept: These categories are constructed by societies and cultures and include classifications such as gender, race, and social status.
Implications: Social categories can influence identity, power dynamics, and social interactions.
Theories on the Philosophy of Category
Classical Theory:
Theory: This theory posits that categories have clear boundaries and can be defined by a set of necessary and sufficient conditions.
Criticism: Critics argue that many categories do not have strict boundaries and that our use of categories is often more flexible and context-dependent.
Prototype Theory:
Theory: Proposed by Eleanor Rosch, this theory suggests that categories are organized around typical or "prototypical" examples rather than strict definitions.
Implications: This theory accounts for the fluidity and variability of categories in everyday thinking.
Family Resemblance Theory:
Theory: Ludwig Wittgenstein introduced this concept, arguing that categories are defined by overlapping similarities rather than a fixed set of characteristics.
Implications: This approach emphasizes the relational and context-dependent nature of categories.
Conceptual Blending Theory:
Theory: This cognitive theory, developed by Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner, explores how categories can combine to form new concepts through mental blending processes.
Implications: It provides insights into creativity, innovation, and the dynamic nature of categorization.
Constructivist Theories:
Theory: These theories argue that categories are not discovered but constructed by individuals or societies based on their interactions with the world.
Implications: Constructivist theories highlight the role of human agency and social context in shaping categories.
Understanding the philosophy of category provides a foundational framework for exploring how we organize our knowledge and experiences, shedding light on the complexities and dynamics of human cognition and social structures.

so the tardis is technically infinite but not quite (at least in my personal theory) so wouldn’t it be funny if there was just a tiny group of aliens living somewhere in the tardis just hanging around, staying out of trouble

some EDS reminders (i’ve been seeing a disturbing amount of misinformation):
- collagen supplements will not help (the issue is your recipe, not a lack of ingredients).
- avoid chiropractors (disturbingly, i’ve seen some advertisement toward people with EDS specifically). neck manipulations by people without real medical certification can be deadly or seriously harmful, and that risk is exacerbated by the lack of connective tissue integrity.
- the idea of the MTHFR gene as a cause of autism, hEDS, immune issues, and GI issues is not at all substantiated. MTHFR gene mutations are incredibly rare, and they come with a distinct set of symptoms.
- hEDS is not a rare condition.
- it’s incredibly dangerous to use mobility aids without medical advice. i entirely understand this isn’t a possibility for everyone, but at least consulting a physio is critical. improperly sized or used canes can cause serious upper body problems, braces without ongoing pt deconditioning, and manual wheelchairs are very simply not good for the human body. this is a complicated topic, benefits and losses need to be weighed from person to person, but be mindful and seek advice.
- hypermobility ≠ eds. symptomatic hypermobility ≠ eds. eds is systemic and not self-diagnosable. it is not “peer reviewable.”
peace and love. stay safe friends.

When it comes to many great literary same-gender friendships (Holmes and Watson, Frodo and Sam, etc.), a lot of people will respond to any attempt to interpret the relationship as romantic with "God, can't two guys/girls ever just be friends?" And that pisses me off SO much. What I always want to say to them is, "Yes, of course they can. That's one interpretation. But why can't there also be an interpretation where they're in love?"
And what it always comes down to is this: If I told you about two characters who were similar ages, close friends, cherished each other above all others, spent all their time together, got possessive and protective of each other, and exchanged affectionate physical touches, would do literally anything for each other, and then I told you that these characters were a man and a woman, most people would automatically assume that they're in love. In fact, if I tried to then say that their relationship is completely platonic, many people just straight up wouldn't believe me (case in point: how shocked people were that Mako and Raleigh didn't kiss at the end of Pacific Rim). A man and woman who clearly adore each other and are openly affectionate with each other but aren't in love? Surely at least one of them must harbor secret feelings for the other, right?
But if I told you that both characters were men or both were women, then all of a sudden it's obviously a close platonic friendship. To suggest otherwise is to commit the terrible crime of "sexualizing friendship" - to take something pure and wholesome and pervert it into something filthy. But why isn't it sexualizing friendship when we do the same thing to the man and the woman? I mean, obviously it's because of homophobia. Romantic love between men and women is sweet and beautiful, but between two men or two women it's purely sexual. It's fetishized. It's fan service. Inappropriate for kids. But my question goes a bit further than that: if we are sexualizing friendship, what the hell is so wrong with that?
My main point here is that both assumptions - that the man and the woman must be lovers, and that the same-gender friends cannot be - are bad ones to make. The truth that I think many people aren't willing to face is that there isn't actually such a big difference between platonic love and romantic love. Really healthy romantic relationships are, at their core, friendships first. Platonic friendships are not a lesser version of romantic relationships. They're also not a "pure, innocent" version. Adding a sexual component to a relationship doesn't make it dirty. Taking that component away doesn't make it less important. Platonic love can be just as passionate, devoted, and insane as romantic love. Romantic love can be just as mundane, simple, and easy as platonic love. Sometimes people might be friends for many years before becoming romantically involved. Sometimes people are romantically involved first and then split up, but become closer as platonic friends than they ever were as partners.
Love is complicated. Sexuality is complicated. It's not a clear cut dichotomy between romantic/platonic. The dividing lines can be messy and they can change over time. Which is why it drives me nuts when people get so fixated on one interpretation of a relationship and refuse to accept any other versions. This can occasionally happen with queer people too - like when two character express affection for one another and people leave comments saying stuff like, "There's literally no platonic explanation for this." Uh, yeah, actually there is. It's called friendship. idk maybe you should try being vulnerable and affectionate with your friends sometimes.
But ugh, every time someone says "Why can't two male/female characters ever just be friends," I just want to be like, "Why do you think that being friends and being lovers are two mutually exclusive things?" Like idk man, I think maybe that says a lot more about your romantic relationships than you realize!

Thinking deeply about PID for the first time ever just for the sake of this fic, and one indisputable roadblock for that theory is George Harrison. Some truthers say the boys decided the cover-up was actually the best way to honor Paul's memory. Um. Do you really think George Harrison is putting himself through one more hour of fame hell for the memory of his junior high bus buddy? No. But maybe George didn't know, says truther. Again. Impossible. Is Billy Shears going to smell like home? I didn't think so. John and Ringo, especially a grieving John and Ringo, can be talked into anything. But grieving George is different. Do you think for one second George would let some random boss him around and condescend to him? No. If anyone other than Paul had acted like that, George would've made them crash their car. You can rationalize the psycho boyfriend or the alcoholic older cousin. You can't make the little brother make sense.

Zuko looked up and locked eyes with his cousin, who was struck speechless. Then, ever so slowly, Lu Ten's lips twitched upwards. And then he smiled. And then he beamed. And then he nodded proudly once, just once, and vanished.
Lu Ten comes back in For the Spirits Chapter VII: Take Me South, only to leave Zuko with more questions than answers. Just how much is he truly aware of? When will he return? What is Zuko going to do now?
(What will the South bring?)

Someone enters a dark room and turns on a single spotlight. It is a BBC representative and I’m stuck in a chair.
“Agree that the War Chief is the Master,” they say.
“Never.”
“Can you deny this?” They play clips from the colorization of The War Games with the Master’s score playing over scenes of the War Chief.
“Easily,” I reply, “you just put that there right now. It wasn’t there before.”
Various torture methods are employed, trying to make me break. But I have gone years ignoring the fan theorists and will not bend just because the BBC has given them a bone. I sit up, battered and bruised but not broken.
“Say it.”
I spit blood back at them. “Never.”

I know that there’s lots of origin stories - both canon and headcanon - about how the Doctor ended up travelling with his granddaughter Susan, but this is how it goes in my head. The Doctor is really quite young for a Time Lord when he first sets out to see the universe, despite his appearance, and he probably doesn’t have kids, if Fifteen’s explanation of “I did have, will have a granddaughter” is true. So I like to picture Susan being created during the lifetime of a different Doctor, maybe Jenny’s daughter or maybe adopted, but whatever happens, she ends up on Gallifrey on the day of the Doctor’s escape. She runs up to First with a big grin and explains who she is. The Doctor’s hesitant until she says her name, and his reaction is basically:
“Ah, okay, yeah, that does seem like a name that a child of mine would give their offspring, my fascination with humanity clearly got passed down. Anyway, I’m about to steal a TARDIS and explore the universe, wanna come?”
Except he says it in a much more refined, First Doctorish way, and Susan immediately agrees, so the rest is history.

The Holy Trinity : project "Apple", "Eden" academy and "Garden"
In Genesis, the apple from the Garden of Eden is most commonly known as the fruit of knowledge and, to this day, we know Project Apple created experiments such as Anya (mind reader) and Bond (future seer). I'd say reading minds and seeing the future count as being "very knowledgeable".
Meanwhile Eden Academy is an elite school, represented by an apple on the students' uniform, in which parents of specific elite children (Imperial Scholars) have secret meetings (which Donovan has access to, thanks to Demetrius).
Also, as we know, Donovan studied there (and at some point gained telepathic powers too) and Henderson's flashback also taught us that there was a lot of war propaganda in the school back then :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, there is Garden, a secret organization, more of a legend even to a spy like Twilight, but who has super strong (no mental inhibitors ?) and probably indoctrinated soldiers, like Yor, working for them.
Eden Academy used to be pro-war and is today one of Ostania's most elite schools, super secret Project Apple wants world peace (probably meaning for Ostania to be in charge of that "peace")...
Tumblr media
and Garden, a seemingly Ostanian organization, desires "to keep this world beautiful".
Tumblr media
The link between all 3 can probably be summed up as "knowledge is power", which also sums up Twilight's entire mission as a spy for Westalis, trying to know what war Ostania (via Desmond who is confirmed to be able to read minds) is planning.
Lastly, the fact Anya's powers may be related to the use of classical language, a dead language most likely only taught in elite schools like Eden nowadays, is one more argument linking Eden academy (knowledge) and Project Apple (intellectual power).
As for Garden, they seem to specialize in physical prowess but if Yor's strength was indeed enhanced, surely it required a good amount of specific knowledge to unlock her mental inhibitors (and then to indoctrinate her).
(I'd also like to point out that Garden describing the world as a "beautiful place to protect" makes even more sense considering they probably took in several war orphans like Yor and made them "useful".)
TL;DR we don't know entirely how yet, but surely there is a link between Garden, Eden Academy and Project Apple and, according to Project Apple who wants "world peace", surely that can only mean war.
